  1. What did Zen the Cat teach us to help us feel better?
  2. How does Yogi the Dog’s pose make our bodies feel?
  3. Why is it important to feel calm and happy like the animals?

Yoga Fun with Animal Friends

Once upon a time, some kids found themselves in a big, green forest. They looked a little worried. But guess what? They met some friendly animals who wanted to help them feel better!

Meet Zen the Cat

Zen the Cat is very calm and wise. He has a special way to help you feel good. Would you like to try it with him?

First, get on your hands and knees, just like a kitty. Take a big breath in through your nose. When you breathe out, make your back round like a rainbow and tuck your chin to your chest. Press your hands on the ground. Do this five times, and you’ll feel much better!

Say Hello to Yogi the Dog

Next, we meet Yogi the Dog. He knows a fun pose too! Let’s try it together.

Start on your hands and knees again. Breathe in deeply. When you breathe out, stretch your legs and arms. Push your hands on the ground and look at your feet. Then, go back to your knees and relax. You can do this as many times as you want!

Namaste the Cobra

Don’t be scared of Namaste the Cobra. She’s a friendly snake who loves to help!

Lie down on your tummy. Put your hands next to your shoulders. Feel your breath. Press your hands on the ground and lift your chest up a little. You’re doing great!

Buzzing Bee Breathing

Now, let’s do a fun breathing exercise. Sit down with your legs crossed. Take a big breath in. As you breathe out, gently press your fingertips on your earlobes to cover your ears. Close your eyes and make a buzzing “Oh” sound until you finish breathing out. Do this five times. It feels so nice!

Feeling Calm and Happy

With the help of our animal friends, we learned how to relax and feel calm. When we are calm, we can see things clearly and solve our problems better.

Wasn’t that fun? There are more yoga adventures waiting for you. Keep exploring and enjoy learning new things!

  1. Have you ever felt worried or scared like the kids in the story? What did you do to feel better, and how do you think yoga with animal friends might help?
  2. Which animal friend was your favorite, and why? Can you think of any other animals that might have fun yoga poses or exercises?
  3. Can you show your family or friends one of the yoga poses you learned from the story? How did it make you feel, and would you like to try it again?
  1. Animal Yoga Adventure: Create a mini yoga session at home or in the classroom. Ask the children to choose their favorite animal from the story (Zen the Cat, Yogi the Dog, or Namaste the Cobra) and lead a yoga session for their friends or family. Encourage them to explain the poses and breathing exercises they learned. This activity helps them practice the poses and teaches them to share their knowledge with others.

  2. Yoga Pose Drawing: Provide paper and crayons or markers and ask the children to draw themselves doing their favorite yoga pose from the lesson. Once they finish, have them share their drawings with the class and explain why they chose that pose and how it makes them feel. This activity encourages creativity and helps reinforce the connection between the poses and their emotions.

  3. Mindful Nature Walk: Take the children on a short walk outside, either in a garden or a park. Ask them to observe the animals and nature around them. Encourage them to notice how animals move and breathe. After the walk, discuss how the animals they saw might inspire new yoga poses or breathing exercises. This activity helps children connect their yoga practice with the natural world and enhances their observational skills.

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

It seems like these kids are lost in the forest. Let’s ask them what’s happening.

“Hey guys, are you lost? You look a bit scared. Do you need help? Oh, look over there! Our friend Zen the Cat might be able to help calm you down.

Hi friends, what’s happening? Did you get lost? I always do this pose to make myself feel better. Would you join me? Get on your hands and knees on the ground, breathe deeply through your nose, and when you exhale, round your back, lowering your chin to your chest. At the same time, press your hands to the ground. Rest and repeat this at least five times.

How lucky that we found Zen the Cat! Do you feel better?

I see Yogi the Dog! Let’s see if he can help us too. I see that you guys are lost, but don’t worry, you’re close to home. I’m going to show you my pose, and you’ll see how much better you’ll feel.

We’re going to get on our hands and knees on the ground, breathe deeply through your nose, and when you exhale, stretch your legs and arms, pushing firmly with your hands on the ground and looking at your feet. Return to your knees and relax. You can repeat this as many times as you like.

So much better, right? You won’t believe it, but under those rocks, I see Namaste the Cobra. Don’t be afraid; she’s an old friend of mine.

Now, lie down with your belly on the ground, put your hands beside your shoulders, feel your breath, press your hands on the ground, and find your center. We’re almost there!

Look, the V is coming out of the honeycomb. We’re going to relax, friends. I am going to teach you a breathing exercise. Sit down with your legs crossed, breathe deeply, and as you exhale, press your fingertips softly over your earlobes, covering your ears. Close your eyes and let out the sound “Oh” until you exhale completely. Keep your eyes closed, then breathe again and repeat at least five times.

You will see what a nice feeling it is when you finish. I will fly up high to see where your house is. With the help of our friends and their poses, we have learned that there are different ways to relax when we feel tension in our bodies.

Being calm and relaxed helps us see everything with more clarity, allowing us to do things better and solve our problems.
