Yoga Fun with Sea Animals

Hey there, friends! Are you ready to have some fun and relax with yoga? Today, we’re going to learn some cool yoga poses with our sea animal friends. Let’s get started!

Turtle Pose

Meet our friend, the turtle! The turtle is going to show us a special pose. First, sit on the floor and keep your back nice and straight. Bend your knees and touch the bottoms of your feet together. Now, lean forward just a little bit. Can you feel your back curving like a turtle shell? That’s the turtle pose! Try to stay like this for a little while. Great job!

Crab Pose

Now, let’s try the crab pose! Sit on the floor and bend your knees. Put your feet flat on the ground and place your hands next to your body. Take a big breath in and lift your hips, tummy, and head up. Your body looks like a box! Try walking like a crab by moving forwards and backwards. Isn’t that fun? Remember to rest a little and try it again a few times.

Shark Pose

Here comes our friend, the shark! Don’t worry, this shark is friendly. Lie down on your tummy and put your arms by your sides with your palms facing up. Take a big breath in and lift your head and shoulders. Now, put your hands together behind your back like a shark fin. Hold it for a few seconds, then relax. Try this a few times. You’re doing amazing!

Starfish Pose

Let’s meet the starfish! Lie down on your back and stretch your arms and legs out wide like a star. Close your eyes and listen to the sound of the waves. Breathe in and feel your tummy rise, then breathe out and feel it go down. Wiggle your arms and legs like a happy starfish. Great job relaxing!

Time to Say Goodbye

The storm is over, and it’s time to go home. We had so much fun doing yoga with our sea animal friends. Remember, you can always come back and try these poses again. See you next time!

  • Which sea animal yoga pose was your favorite, and why did you like it the most? Can you think of any other animals that might make fun yoga poses?
  • How did you feel when you were doing the turtle pose or the starfish pose? Can you think of other times when you feel calm and relaxed like that?
  • Have you ever seen a real turtle, crab, shark, or starfish? Where were you, and what did you notice about them? How do you think doing yoga like these animals helps us move and feel?
  1. Sea Animal Yoga Adventure: Create a mini yoga adventure at home or in the classroom. Ask the children to think of other sea animals and invent their own yoga poses inspired by them. For example, they could create a “Dolphin Pose” or “Octopus Pose.” Encourage them to demonstrate their poses to the class and explain why they chose that particular sea animal. This activity helps children use their imagination and understand how yoga can be inspired by nature.

  2. Yoga Pose Storytime: Have the children draw a picture of their favorite sea animal doing yoga. Then, ask them to tell a short story about their sea animal friend. For instance, “Once upon a time, there was a little turtle who loved doing yoga every morning…” This activity encourages creativity and helps children connect storytelling with physical movement.

  3. Yoga Pose Observation Walk: Take the children on a short walk around the school or playground. Ask them to observe their surroundings and find things that remind them of the yoga poses they learned. For example, a curved tree branch might remind them of the Turtle Pose. After the walk, discuss what they observed and how it relates to the poses. This activity encourages mindfulness and observation skills.

**Speaker:** How’s it going, girls? You look a bit scared. It’s just like any other storm. We could do some yoga if you’d like to relax. My friends, the sea animals will help us. What do you say?

**Speaker:** Hello, my turtle friend! I was just telling the girls we could do some yoga. Will you show them the turtle pose?

**Turtle:** Sure! I’ll show you the turtle pose. Ready? Sit on the floor and keep your spine straight. Flex your knees and touch the soles of your feet together.

**[Music]**

**Turtle:** Exhale and lean just a little bit forward. Now bring your right arm under your right knee and your left arm under your left knee. Can you feel how your back is curved, just like a turtle shell? Try to keep the pose for at least one minute.

**[Music]**

**Turtle:** That’s the turtle pose! I think I’ll swim back to the sea.

**[Music]**

**Speaker:** Hey there! I see you’re doing yoga. Would you like me to show you the crab pose? Let’s give it a go! Sit on the floor and flex your knees. Keep your feet firmly on the ground and bring your palms next to your wrists. Inhale and lift your hips, torso, and head. Your body now looks like a box. Look up and keep the pose for five seconds.

**Speaker:** Try walking like a crab, just like me! Move forwards and backwards. Well done! Now exhale and sit on the floor again. Rest a little and repeat the pose at least five times. The crab pose is really awesome, isn’t it? Would you like to learn more poses? Come with me then! Deep in the sea, I have many friends who can help you.

**[Music]**

**Speaker:** This is my friend the shark. Hey, friend! Don’t worry, I’m a good shark. I’m going to show you the shark pose. Lie down on your belly and place your arms on each side of your body. Your palms should be facing upwards. Look up, inhale, and raise your head, shoulders, and ribs.

**Speaker:** Bring your hands and palms together and crisscross your fingers behind your back, making a shark fin. Keep the pose for five seconds. Exhale, bring your hands back to the initial position, and come down. Repeat the pose at least five times. Amazing! You did so well!

**Speaker:** I think I can see my friend the starfish over there. Go say hello! She’ll show you how to do a really cool pose.

**[Music]**

**Speaker:** Never mind! Do you want me to show you the starfish pose? Lie down on your back, stretch your legs, and bring both hands over your head. Your feet and hands should be apart as much as you can to form a starfish, just like me.

**Speaker:** Close your eyes for a moment and try to be still and silent. Can you hear the sound of the waves? Now keep your legs stretched and bring your hands to your belly. Let’s focus on breathing for a moment. When we inhale, we see our belly rising because it fills with air. We raise our hands and keep them apart just a little. When we exhale, we see our belly emptying of air, and our hands go back to their initial position.

**Speaker:** Let’s inhale and exhale a few more times. We finish this pose by wiggling our arms and legs. Time to say goodbye! See you around!

**[Music]**

**Speaker:** The storm is over! I told you it was going to be just fine. I think it’s time to go home. See you soon!
