An alternative would involve SpaceX transferring the land to the government, which would not be ideal for the company, as it could lose control over its privately owned spaceport. SpaceX decided to extend its deadline and increase offers for some remaining residents. Some residents were able to have their homes reevaluated, as SpaceX had not considered the loss of income for those using their homes as short-term rentals.
