share us on:

In today’s lesson, we explored various water transport vehicles, including boats, ships, motorboats, canoes, sailboats, jet skis, submarines, and cruise ships. Each vehicle has unique features and purposes, from small boats for short trips to large cruise ships that function like floating cities. We concluded by encouraging kids to think about their favorite water vehicle and share it with a friend.
  1. What is your favorite water vehicle that we learned about today?
  2. How do boats and ships help people travel on water?
  3. Can you think of a time when you would want to use a canoe or a jet ski?

Water Transport Vehicles for Kids

Hi everyone! Today, we’re going to learn about different ways to travel on water. Let’s dive in and explore some cool water vehicles!

Boats

Boats are small and usually float on shallow water like lakes or rivers. They are great for short trips and fun adventures!

Ships

Ships are much bigger than boats. They travel on wide rivers and seas. Ships can carry lots of people or things. The person who drives the ship is called the captain.

Motorboats

Motorboats are small and can be filled with air. They have a little motor that helps them go fast. They are light and often used for rescues.

Canoes

Canoes are long and narrow. You use paddles to move them. It’s important to paddle carefully so you don’t tip over!

Sailboats

Sailboats use the wind to move. They have big sails that catch the wind. Pirates used to sail in these boats long ago!

Jet Skis

Jet skis are like fast water motorcycles. They zoom around the coast and can carry one or two people. They are super fun!

Submarines

Submarines are amazing because they can travel deep underwater. They can stay under the sea for a long time, exploring the ocean depths.

Cruise Ships

Cruise ships are the biggest boats of all! They can travel very far and carry lots of people and goods. They are like floating cities!

Review

Let’s remember what we learned today: boat, ship, motorboat, canoe, sailboat, jet ski, submarine, and cruise ship. Which one is your favorite? Think about it and maybe share with a friend!

  • Have you ever been on a boat or any other water vehicle? What was it like, and where did you go?
  • If you could choose any water vehicle to travel on, which one would you pick and why? What adventures would you like to have?
  • Imagine you are the captain of a ship. Where would you sail to, and who would you take with you on your journey?
  1. Build Your Own Boat: Gather some simple materials like paper, cork, or plastic bottles. Try to build a small boat that can float in a basin of water. Experiment with different shapes and sizes. Which design floats the best? Can you make it move using a straw to blow air or by adding a small sail?

  2. Water Vehicle Observation Walk: Take a walk with an adult to a nearby lake, river, or beach. Look for different types of water vehicles. Can you spot a boat, a ship, or a jet ski? Draw pictures of what you see and try to identify each type of vehicle. Discuss with your adult companion how each vehicle is used and what makes it special.

  3. Imagine and Draw: Imagine you are the captain of a ship or a pirate on a sailboat. Draw a picture of your adventure. What does your ship look like? Where are you going? Who is with you? Share your drawing with a friend or family member and tell them about your exciting journey on the water!

Hi everyone! Today, we’re going to learn about water transportation.

A boat is mostly used in shallow water.

A ship is larger and is used in wide rivers and seas. It can transport people or goods, and the person in charge is the captain.

Motorboats are small and are often inflated with air. They have a small motor and are quite light, making them useful for rescues.

Sailboats are boats that move thanks to the wind in their sails.

Pirates used to travel in these!

This is a jet ski; it’s used to move very fast around the coast and fits one or two people.

What about deeper down in the sea? We have submarines, which can travel underwater for months.

[Music]

This is a cruise ship. They are the biggest boats on the planet and can travel very long distances, usually transporting goods and people.

Let’s review what we have learned: boat, ship, motorboat, canoe, sailboat, jet ski, submarine, cruise ship.
