The Eco-Detective: How to Look After the Environment

Welcome to a fun adventure with Smile and Learn! Today, you get to be an eco-detective. Your mission is to find someone who is not being kind to the environment. Are you ready to help?

Finding Clues

Our adventure starts at a hotel where someone has been causing trouble for nature. First, we find a tree that has been damaged. Remember, trees and plants need our care because they help us breathe and give us shade.

Next, we spot some swimming goggles on the ground. Could the person be near the pool? Let’s keep looking for more clues!

Recycling is Important

Oh no! We found a bin where biodegradable waste is mixed with paper and plastics. This is not good because recycling helps us keep the Earth clean. Always remember to sort your trash into the right bins!

Saving Electricity

We found a room key card for room 303. Let’s check it out! In the room, we notice the lights are on even though it’s daytime. Turning off lights when they’re not needed saves electricity and helps the planet. Great job spotting that!

On the Trail

It looks like our mystery person left through the window, leaving behind some sunblock cream. They might be heading to the beach! Let’s hurry and find them before they cause more harm.

Catch the Culprit

We made it to the beach, and there are lots of people here. Keep your eyes open because our person could be anywhere, and we need to stop them from hurting the environment.

There they are! We found the person who wasn’t being nice to nature. Thanks to your help, we can make sure they learn how to be more eco-friendly.

Keep Learning and Exploring

  • What are some things you do at home or school to help take care of the environment, like recycling or saving electricity?
  • Can you think of a time when you saw someone not being kind to nature? What did you do, or what could you do next time?
  • Why do you think it’s important to be an eco-detective and help protect the environment? How does it make you feel when you help the Earth?
  1. Recycling Detective: At home, become a recycling detective! Ask an adult to help you gather different types of waste like paper, plastic, and food scraps. Sort them into the correct recycling bins. Discuss with your family why it’s important to recycle and how it helps the environment. Can you think of ways to reduce waste at home?

  2. Electricity Saver Challenge: For one day, be an electricity saver in your house. Make a list of all the lights and electronic devices you see turned on when not in use. Turn them off and keep track of how many you find. At the end of the day, share your findings with your family. How many did you turn off? How does saving electricity help the planet?

  3. Nature Journal: Go outside and find a tree or plant you like. Draw a picture of it in a notebook and write down why it’s important to take care of it. Observe how it looks and feels. Does it provide shade or a home for animals? Share your drawing and thoughts with your class or family. What can you do to help protect trees and plants?

**Sanitized Transcript:**

Welcome to Smile and Learn! An individual with anti-environmental views has sneaked into the hotel. Your job as an eco detective is to find him.

It looks like he has been around here, causing harm to the environment. Here’s what we’ve found: he has damaged a tree. We should take care of our plants. Look, he dropped his swimming goggles—could he be around the pool? Let’s keep going.

Something doesn’t seem right. We’ve discovered that he mixed biodegradable waste with paper and plastics in the same bin. You shouldn’t mix waste; recycling is important!

Look, he left his room key card. He’s in room 303. Let’s go have a look—there’s no time to lose! There’s something harmful to the environment in this room. Can you help us find it?

Let’s take a look around. That’s it! The lights are on in broad daylight. We need to save electricity by turning off unnecessary lights. Good thing you noticed that!

It seems he escaped through the window, leaving behind his sunblock cream. He’s heading to the beach! We almost caught him. There are so many people here, so let’s keep our eyes wide open—he could be anywhere, potentially contaminating the environment.

There he is! Calling all units: the individual with anti-environmental views is on the beach. I repeat, he’s on the beach. We’ll take it from here.
