Supermarket Foods – Part 1

Hello friends! Today, we’re going on a fun adventure to the supermarket. We will learn lots of new words about food. Are you ready? Let’s go!

Fruits

Fruits are yummy and good for you! They have vitamins and minerals that help us grow strong. Fruits grow on trees and plants. Some fruits you might know are oranges, apples, and strawberries. Do you have a favorite fruit?

Vegetables

Vegetables are also very healthy! They can be crunchy and colorful. You can eat them raw in a salad or cook them. Carrots and peppers are examples of vegetables. What vegetables do you like to eat?

Fish

Fish live in the sea and rivers. We can catch them and eat them. Salmon and sardines are two types of fish. Fish is good for our brains!

Meat

Meat comes from animals like cows, lambs, and chickens. We eat meat to get strong muscles. Do you like chicken or beef?

Oil

Oil is a liquid that comes from plants and seeds. We use oil to make our food taste yummy, like in salad dressing. Olive oil is very healthy!

Eggs

Eggs come from chickens. They have a hard shell, but inside there is a yolk and white part that we can eat. Eggs are great for breakfast!

Milk

Milk is a drink that comes from animals like cows and sheep. It’s creamy and delicious. A big glass of milk is perfect for breakfast!

Cheese

Cheese is made from milk. There are many kinds of cheese, like cheddar and mozzarella. Cheese is great on sandwiches or pizza!

Rice

Rice is a small grain that we cook to eat. It’s tasty in dishes like fried rice or paella. Rice is fun to eat with a spoon!

Pasta

Pasta is made from dough. We use it to make noodles and macaroni. Pasta is delicious with sauce and cheese. Yum!

Our trip to the supermarket was awesome! We learned about fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, oil, eggs, milk, cheese, rice, and pasta. Now I’m feeling hungry! See you next time!

  2. Supermarket Scavenger Hunt: Next time you visit the supermarket with your family, go on a scavenger hunt! Make a list of the foods we learned about, like apples, carrots, fish, and cheese. See if you can find them in the store. How many different kinds of each can you find? Ask your family to help you read the labels and learn more about where these foods come from.

  3. Cooking with a Grown-Up: Choose a simple recipe that includes some of the foods we talked about, like a fruit salad or a pasta dish. With the help of a grown-up, measure and mix the ingredients. Talk about the different foods you are using and how they help keep us healthy. What do you notice about the taste and texture of each ingredient?
