Scratch Video Update: Episode 26

Hey everyone, welcome to the Scratch Video Update! My name is Eric, also known as Speak Visually on Scratch, and I’m here with my friend Chan Pika, who you might know as Champ 99 on Scratch. We have a special episode for you today, and it’s all about dress-up projects!

What Are Dress-Up Projects?

Dress-up projects are super fun and creative! They let you take a character and dress them up in different outfits. You can create a dress-up game with animals, dinosaurs, aliens, or even characters from your favorite stories like Harry Potter. The best part is that you can use your imagination to make anything you want!

Projects We Love

There are so many amazing projects in the Scratch community, and we want to share some of our favorites with you. Did you know there are over 35 million projects on Scratch? That’s a lot of creativity!

Happy Sailor Dress-Up

One project we love is called “Happy Sailor Dress Up” by X Van E^X. In this game, you can dress up as a sailor. It’s really fun to see all the different sailor outfits you can create!

Halloween Puppy Dress-Up

Another cool project is the Halloween puppy dress-up game by Disney Girl 0727. You get to choose a puppy and dress it up in cute costumes. It’s super adorable, and we think you’ll love it!

Create Your Own Dress-Up Game

If you think dress-up projects are fun, why not try making your own? On the Scratch tips page, there’s an activity called “Make a Dress-Up Game” where you can learn how to create your own dress-up project. You can be as creative as you want! For example, you could make a game where you dress up Chan 99, a sprite from the Scratch library. The possibilities are endless!

Meet the Scratch Team

Before we go, we have a special message from the Scratch team. Eric and I aren’t the only ones dressed up today, so let’s say hello to some other members of the Scratch team!

Thanks for joining us for this fun episode of the Scratch Video Update. We hope you enjoy exploring and creating dress-up projects on Scratch!

  • What kind of dress-up project would you like to create? Think about your favorite animals, characters, or stories. How would you dress them up?
  • Have you ever played a dress-up game before? What did you like about it, and what would you change to make it even more fun?
  • Imagine you could dress up as any character from a story or movie. Who would you choose and why? What kind of outfits would you wear?
  • Create Your Own Dress-Up Character: Use paper, crayons, and scissors to create your own dress-up character. Draw a character on a piece of paper and then design different outfits for them. Cut out the outfits and see how they look on your character. Try making outfits for different occasions like a party, a day at the beach, or even a space adventure!

  • Dress-Up Story Time: Choose a character from your favorite story or movie and imagine what kind of outfits they would wear in different situations. Draw or describe these outfits and share your ideas with a friend or family member. How would Harry Potter dress for a day at the beach? What would a dinosaur wear to a birthday party?

  • Observation Challenge: Next time you go outside, observe the different outfits people are wearing. Think about why they might have chosen those clothes. Are they dressed for the weather, a special event, or just for fun? Try to imagine a dress-up game where you can mix and match these real-life outfits on a character. What combinations would you create?

Here’s a sanitized version of the provided YouTube transcript:

Hey everyone, welcome to the Scratch Video Update! My name is Eric, also known as Speak Visually on Scratch. My name is Chan Pika, also known as Champ 99 on Scratch. We have a special Episode 26 of the Scratch Video Update, and this episode’s theme is dress-up projects!

I’m excited to talk about some of the cool things happening in the Scratch community, especially around dress-up projects. If you’re not familiar, dress-up projects are exactly what the name implies: you have a character, and you dress them up! They can take many different forms. You could have a dress-up animal game, dress up a dinosaur, an alien, or even a character from Harry Potter or the Victorian era. The possibilities are endless!

We want to share some projects that we love. This is a great segue into our “Things We’re Loving” section. We love all the projects in the Scratch community, all 35 million of them, but we wanted to highlight a few that stand out.

One of the projects I love is by X Van E^X, called “Happy Sailor Dress Up.” It’s exactly as it sounds—you can go in there and dress up as a sailor. Pretty cool!

I also want to mention a Halloween puppy dress-up game by Disney Girl 0727. In this project, you can choose which puppy you want to dress up, and there are a bunch of really cute costumes. I highly encourage checking it out; it’s very adorable!

If you’re enjoying what you’re seeing with dress-up projects, we have an activity on the tips page called “Make a Dress-Up Game,” where you can learn how to create your own. It’s very open-ended, so you can get creative! For example, since Chan 99 is a sprite in the library, you could make a Chan 99 dress-up game—why not?

Alright, should we have a message from the Scratch team? Eric and I are not the only ones dressed up today, so we wanted to let a few other members of the Scratch team say hello in this episode!
