Hey there! My name is Eric, and I hope you’re having an awesome Scratch Month! We’re already two weeks into this exciting global celebration where people from all over the world come together to imagine, create, and share their projects in the Scratch community. Let me tell you about some of the cool things we’ve been doing!
On Monday, we started with three new activities. One of them is called “Interview Anything.” Usually, we interview people, but what if you could interview anything you wanted? I saw a funny project where a character was interviewing Mr. Milk!
Another fun interview was with a chipmunk talking to a chair. Can you imagine what a chair might say? It’s fascinating!
We also launched “Sprite Art,” where you can make art out of anything you like. There were so many amazing projects, like spiraling food art! One of my favorites was a Sprite paint tool that even had a rainbow mode. It was super cool!
Our last activity is called “How Do You Peace Out?” It’s all about making relaxing and calming Scratch projects. One project I loved had a puffer fish teaching you how to breathe. When the puffer fish went up, you breathed in, and when it went down, you breathed out. It was so soothing!
Another project took us on a journey into our imagination. Imagine being in a forest and finding a beautiful lake. You close your eyes and feel like you’ve had the best day ever!
There was also a project with a view out of a window, reminding us that even when we’re apart, we’re all together. It’s been amazing to see everyone working together in the Scratch community during Scratch Month.
So, that’s a little sneak peek of what’s been happening during Scratch Month. We’d love for you to join us! Just visit the Scratch website at scratch.mit.edu. On the home page, you’ll find a featured studio row with all the Scratch Month activities. There’s also a Scratch Month website with all the details. Hope to see you online, and happy Scratch Month!
Interview Your Favorite Object: Choose an object in your home, like a toy or a piece of furniture, and imagine what it might say if it could talk. Write down a few questions you would ask it and then create a short skit or drawing showing the conversation. Share your skit with your family or friends and see if they can guess what the object is!
Create Your Own Sprite Art: Gather some art supplies like paper, crayons, or markers, and create your own sprite character. Think about what makes your sprite unique and give it a special feature, like rainbow colors or a fun pattern. Once you’ve finished, display your sprite art in your room or share it with your class.
Peaceful Breathing Exercise: Find a quiet spot and practice a breathing exercise inspired by the puffer fish project. Imagine you’re a puffer fish: breathe in slowly as you imagine yourself floating up, and breathe out as you float down. Try doing this for a few minutes and notice how it makes you feel. Share your experience with a family member or friend and teach them how to do it too!

– Hey, everyone! My name is Eric, and I hope you’re having a great Scratch Month. (giggles) (cheers) We are officially two weeks into this global celebration, where people are coming together in the Scratch community to imagine, create, and share. I want to give you a quick recap of what we’ve seen.
So, on Monday, we launched three new activities. One of them was “Interview Anything.” We’re used to interviewing people, but what if you could literally interview anything? I loved this one where a character was interviewing Mr. Milk.
– [Reporter Berry] Hello, Mr. Milk! Today we will ask you what everyone wants to know. Do you get cold in here? That’s really interesting.
We also saw a fun interview where a chipmunk was interviewing a chair.
– Now, tell me, what’s it like being a chair? Fascinating.
We also launched the activity “Sprite Art,” which encouraged people to make art out of anything. I was super mesmerized by the number of spiraling food projects that we saw. I also really enjoyed this Sprite paint tool that even included a rainbow mode. (light classical music)
And finally, we launched our “How Do You Peace Out” activity, which is all about creating relaxing and soothing Scratch projects. I really loved this project where a puffer fish was leading you through a breathing exercise. So, every time the puffer fish would go up, you’d breathe in, and when it went down, you’d breathe out. We were also taken on an awesome journey into our own imagination.
– [Girl] Think that you’re in a forest, and you come across a beautiful lake. You close your eyes and think you’ve had the most beautiful day.
I especially loved this project with a view out a window that reminds us that while we’re apart, we’re all together in this. I’ve been feeling that togetherness seeing all the awesome collaboration happening in the Scratch online community during Scratch Month.
So, there you have it! Just a little sneak peek into what’s been happening during Scratch Month. As a reminder, we would love for you to join. Just hop on over to the Scratch website, scratch.mit.edu, and on the home page, you’ll see a featured studio row with all the Scratch Month activities. We also have the Scratch Month website that has all the details as well. Hope to see you online, and happy Scratch Month!
