Hello, everyone! My name is Eric, and I’m excited to tell you all about Scratch Month! It’s a special time when people from all over the world come together to have fun with Scratch. Scratch is a place where you can imagine, create, and share your ideas with others. Each week, we have new activities for you to try!
We’ve already had an amazing start to Scratch Month! Over 3,500 people joined a super fun dance challenge. Scratch Cat, our friendly mascot, invited everyone to remix a dance project, and so many people joined in to show their moves!
This past Monday, we started some exciting activities. One of them is the Scratch Avatar Creator. It’s like making your own special icon or picture. People made all sorts of cool things like a duck icon, a pineapple, ice cream, and even a human avatar!
We also have the DIY Crafts Studio. This is where you can use things from your recycle bin to make something awesome. One of the coolest projects was a DIY Ring Toss game made from old paper plates. How fun is that?
Another activity is called Share the Love. It’s all about spreading kindness and love in the Scratch community. People shared beautiful messages, like reminders to love yourself, thank-yous to those who keep us safe, and even a sweet Mother’s Day card.
As you can see, Scratch Month is full of exciting and creative activities, and you can join in too! Just visit the Scratch website at www.scratch.mit.edu. On the homepage, you’ll find a section with all the Scratch Month activities. We also have a special Scratch Month website with more details.
We hope to see you online having fun and being creative! Happy Scratch Month!
Create Your Own Dance Challenge: Just like the Scratch Cat dance challenge, create your own dance moves! Gather your family or friends and teach them your dance. Record a video of your dance and share it with others. Think about how you can use different movements to express different emotions or stories.
DIY Recycled Craft: Find some items in your recycle bin, like paper plates, cardboard, or plastic bottles. Use these materials to create a new game or toy. For example, you could make a ring toss game or a puppet. Once you’ve created your craft, explain to someone how you made it and what materials you used. Discuss why recycling is important for our planet.
Kindness Messages: Write or draw a kind message for someone in your family or community. It could be a thank-you note, a compliment, or a reminder to love themselves. Think about how your message can make someone feel happy or appreciated. Share your message with them and observe their reaction. How does spreading kindness make you feel?

A lot has already happened in just one week, and I want to give a quick recap of what we’ve seen. First, we had over 3,500 people participate in a dance challenge to kick off Scratch Month. Scratch Cat launched a Remix project inviting everyone to dance along, and the response was fantastic!
This past Monday, we launched a few activities. The first was the Scratch Avatar Creator, similar to Icon Maker projects, and we saw some amazing creations, including a duck icon, a pineapple icon, ice cream, and even a human avatar creator.
We also introduced the DIY Crafts Studio, encouraging everyone to dig into their recycle bins and create something cool. One of my favorites was the DIY Ring Toss game, made from old paper plates.
Additionally, we launched an activity called Share the Love, which is all about expressing love within the Scratch community. We saw beautiful messages, including reminders of self-worth, shout-outs to those keeping us healthy and safe, and even a heartfelt Mother’s Day card.
As you can see, it’s been an exciting and busy Scratch Month, and I want to remind you that you are all invited to participate!
