How to Draw a Giraffe

Hello, little artist! Today, we are going to learn how to draw a giraffe. Giraffes are tall animals with long necks and spots all over their bodies. Let’s have some fun and draw one together!

What You Need

Before we start, make sure you have some paper and crayons or colored pencils. Are you ready? Let’s go!

Step 1: Draw the Head

First, let’s draw the giraffe’s head. Make a small oval shape at the top of your paper. This will be the giraffe’s face.

Step 2: Add the Ears and Horns

Next, draw two small triangles on top of the head for the ears. Giraffes also have little horns called ossicones. Draw two tiny bumps between the ears.

Step 3: Draw the Long Neck

Now, let’s draw the giraffe’s long neck. From the bottom of the head, draw two long lines going down. Make sure they are close together.

Step 4: Draw the Body

At the end of the neck, draw a big oval for the body. This is where the giraffe’s tummy will be.

Step 5: Add the Legs

Giraffes have long legs. Draw four long rectangles coming down from the body. These will be the giraffe’s legs.

Step 6: Draw the Tail

At the back of the body, draw a long, thin line with a little tuft at the end. This is the giraffe’s tail.

Step 7: Add Spots

Now, let’s add some spots to our giraffe. Draw small circles or squares all over the giraffe’s body and neck. Giraffes have lots of spots!

Step 8: Color Your Giraffe

Finally, it’s time to color your giraffe. Giraffes are usually yellow or light brown with darker brown spots. But you can use any colors you like. Make your giraffe as colorful as you want!

Great Job!

Wow, you did an amazing job drawing your giraffe! Remember, you can practice drawing as many times as you like. Keep having fun and being creative!

  • What do you think makes giraffes special compared to other animals? Can you think of any other animals with long necks?
  • Have you ever seen a giraffe in real life, maybe at a zoo or in a book? What did you notice about how they look or move?
  • If you could add something unique to your giraffe drawing, like a special pattern or color, what would it be and why?
  1. Spot the Giraffe: Go on a mini safari in your backyard or local park. Look for things that remind you of a giraffe, like tall trees or objects with spots. Can you find anything that looks like a giraffe’s neck or spots? Draw what you find and share it with your friends or family.

  2. Giraffe Neck Measuring: Use a measuring tape or a piece of string to measure how long a giraffe’s neck might be. Compare it to your own height or the height of a friend. How many of you would it take to be as tall as a giraffe’s neck? Try drawing a line on the ground to see how long it is!

  3. Colorful Giraffe Parade: Imagine if giraffes could be any color you wanted. Draw a parade of giraffes using different colors and patterns. Maybe one has rainbow spots, and another has stripes! Share your colorful giraffes with your class and talk about why you chose those colors.
