Hello, everyone! I’m Russell Okung, and I play as an offensive tackle in the National Football League. I first learned about computer science when I was in high school, and it has become increasingly important in our world today.
Computer science is a big deal in our world and economy right now. It’s a great time to get involved and learn more about it. Imagine creating the next big social media platform—how cool would that be? What excites me about computer science is the endless possibilities it offers.
Sometimes, you need to step out of your comfort zone to achieve great things. I hope you all dream of becoming entrepreneurs, starting your own businesses, and creating opportunities for your families. Whether it’s developing an app or a new platform, I’m here to tell you that you can make it happen.
While I’ve been fortunate in my career, I know that not everyone has the same opportunities. I want to encourage young people and anyone interested in computer science to understand that, even though it can be tough, your determination and hard work can lead to the success you want.
Remember, it’s okay to make mistakes along the way. Learning is a part of the process, and sometimes things don’t go perfectly. But with persistence and a willingness to learn, you can achieve amazing things in computer science and beyond.
Join an online coding platform like Code.org or Scratch and start a beginner’s project. Try creating a simple game or animation. This will help you understand the basics of coding and see the creative possibilities it offers.
Think of a problem you face in daily life and brainstorm an app that could solve it. Sketch out your app’s design and features. This activity will encourage you to think like an entrepreneur and step out of your comfort zone.
Choose a tech entrepreneur who inspires you and research their journey. Present your findings to the class, focusing on the challenges they overcame. This will show you the importance of determination and hard work in achieving success.
Join a coding challenge or hackathon, either online or in your community. Working with others on a project will help you learn from mistakes and grow your skills in a collaborative environment.
Make a vision board that represents your goals in computer science and entrepreneurship. Include images, quotes, and milestones you want to achieve. This will help you visualize your future and stay motivated on your learning journey.

What’s happening, everyone? I’m Russell Okung, an offensive tackle in the National Football League. I was first introduced to computer science in high school.
Computer science is becoming increasingly important in our world and economy, so there’s no better time than now to take advantage of it.
Who wants to create the next big social media platform? Let’s do it! What excites me about computer science education is the realm of possibilities it offers.
Okay, one of you is going to show me how to do this. Is that alright?
You can achieve a lot more if you focus and step outside your comfort zone. I hope you all aspire to be entrepreneurs, to start your own businesses, and to create opportunities for your families. Whether it’s developing an app or a platform, I’m here to tell you that you can do it.
While I’m grateful for my opportunities, I recognize that many people don’t have the same chances. I encourage children and individuals interested in computer science to understand that, although it may be challenging, your resilience and perseverance can lead to the success you desire.
I’m not scoring though.
You’re not doing a very good job. (laughs) I’m not doing a good job.
