What Do Pandas Look Like?

Pandas are big, fluffy bears with black and white fur. They have round faces and big, black patches around their eyes. Their ears are black too, and they look like they are wearing a cute, furry mask!

Where Do Pandas Live?

Pandas live in the forests of China. These forests are full of tall, green bamboo plants. Pandas love bamboo! They eat it all day long. Yum!

What Do Pandas Eat?

Pandas eat a lot of bamboo. They munch on the leaves, stems, and even the shoots. Sometimes, they eat other things like fruits and vegetables, but bamboo is their favorite food.

How Do Pandas Spend Their Day?

Pandas spend most of their day eating and sleeping. They are very peaceful animals. When they are not eating, they like to take long naps. Doesn’t that sound relaxing?

Why Are Pandas Special?

Pandas are special because they are very rare. There are not many pandas left in the world, so people work hard to protect them. We want to make sure pandas have safe places to live and lots of bamboo to eat.

Fun Panda Facts

Did you know baby pandas are called cubs? They are tiny and pink when they are born. As they grow, they get their black and white fur. Pandas can also climb trees and swim! They are very good at it.

  • Have you ever seen a panda in a picture or at the zoo? What did you notice about how they look or what they do?
  • If you could spend a day with a panda, what fun activities would you like to do together?
  • Why do you think it’s important to protect pandas and their homes? Can you think of ways we can help them?
  1. Panda Mask Craft: Let’s make our own panda masks! Use paper plates, black and white paint, and some string. Paint the plate to look like a panda’s face with black patches around the eyes and black ears. Once dry, attach the string to wear your mask. While crafting, think about why pandas have these colors and how it helps them in the wild.

  2. Bamboo Hunt: Go on a nature walk with your family or friends and look for plants that remind you of bamboo. Take pictures or draw what you find. Discuss how these plants are similar or different from bamboo and why pandas might love bamboo so much.

  3. Panda Day Role Play: Pretend to be a panda for a day! Spend some time “eating” (snacking on healthy treats like celery or carrots) and “napping” (resting quietly). Talk about how it feels to live like a panda and why pandas might spend so much time eating and sleeping.
