In this lesson, Mimo guides participants in creating a unique “magic tree” that represents their character traits. By drawing a tree and labeling it with positive (fruits) and negative (branches) words that describe themselves, learners explore their self-perception and personal qualities. The activity emphasizes the importance of understanding both external appearances and internal characteristics, fostering self-awareness and creativity.
  1. What did you draw on your magic tree?
  2. Can you tell me one happy word and one not-so-happy word you used?
  3. How do the words on your tree show what you are like inside?

Build Your Tree – Learn About Your Character Traits

Hello there! I’m Mimo. What’s your name?

I can’t hear you. Oh, right! I’m hard of hearing. Guess what? I’m going to plant the seed of a magic tree. Come over and have a look!

Let’s Draw a Magic Tree!

First, we need to draw our tree on a piece of paper so it can grow. Grab some paper and a pencil, and let’s draw your magic tree together!

You can draw a thick trunk, a thin trunk, or a short one. Add lots of leaves or just a few—it’s up to you! Your tree will be special and unique, just like you!

Have you finished your tree? Can I see it? Wow, it’s so pretty! Look at mine—it’s so big!

Magic Words for Our Tree

Look, some magic words have appeared on the screen. They say, “Hi Mimo! Thank you for creating me.” Can you see these words?

The words on the left are happy words; I call them fruits. The words on the right are not-so-happy words; I call them branches.

All these words are part of me, and they help me grow and bloom. Let’s put five fruits and five branches that describe you best on your tree crown.

Decorate Your Tree

Now that your tree is ready, write the words you want in the tree crown, just like I did.

For example, “forgetful” is a branch word, so I put it over here, and “nice” is a fruit word, so it goes straight to the tree crown.

Come on, it’s your turn now!

Great Job!

Have you put your words on the tree? You have? Awesome!

You’ve drawn me so beautifully, Mimo! I love my branches and my fruits. I’m so happy!

What Did We Learn?

You know what? I’ve learned so much. How about you? What did you learn?

Let me tell you what we did. We drew a tree, which shows how we see ourselves on the outside. Then we learned what we’re like on the inside by using the words we put on the tree.

Isn’t that interesting? I’m getting really hungry. Bye-bye! Come back soon!

  • What kind of tree did you draw, and why did you choose to make it that way? Can you tell us about the special features of your tree?
  • Think about the words you chose for your tree. Why did you pick those words, and how do they make you feel? Do you have any stories about when you showed those traits?
  • Have you ever seen a real tree that reminds you of your magic tree? What was special about it, and how did it make you feel when you saw it?
  1. Nature Walk and Observation: Take a walk outside with an adult and look at different trees. Notice the different shapes and sizes of the trunks and leaves. Can you find a tree that looks like the one you drew? Talk about the different “fruits” and “branches” you see in nature. How do they make you feel? Draw or collect leaves and bring them back to class to share with your friends.

  2. Role-Playing with Character Traits: Choose one “fruit” word and one “branch” word from your tree. Act out a short story or scene where you use these traits. For example, if “kind” is a fruit word, pretend to help a friend. If “forgetful” is a branch word, pretend to forget something important. Share your story with the class and see if they can guess your words!

  3. Character Trait Matching Game: Create cards with different “fruit” and “branch” words. Mix them up and play a matching game with a friend. When you find a match, talk about a time when you showed that trait or saw someone else show it. How did it make you feel? This will help you understand how these traits appear in everyday life.

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Now, I only need to draw my tree on a piece of paper so it can grow. Do it yourself! Come on, get some paper and a pencil and draw your magic tree. I’ll be waiting.

You can draw a thick trunk, a thin trunk, or a short one. Add lots of leaves or not that many—the way you like it best. Your tree will be unique!

Finish your tree. Can I have a look? Wow, so pretty! Mine is this one over here—it’s so big!

Look, some magic words have come up on the screen. Hi Mimo! Thank you for creating me. Can you see these words over here? The words on the left are positive words; I call them fruits. The words on the right are negative words; I call them branches.

All words are part of me; they help me grow and bloom. Put on your tree crown those five fruits and five branches that best define you.

Whoa! Now that your tree is ready, write the words you want in the tree crown, same as me.

Look, “forgetful” is a branch word, so I put it over here, and “nice” is a fruit word, so it goes straight to the tree crown.

Come on, it’s your turn now!

You’ve drawn me so beautifully, Mimo! I’m loving my branches and my fruits. I’m so glad!

You know what? I’ve learned so much. What about you? What would you say you’ve learned?

I’m going to tell you about it first. We’ve drawn a tree, which stands for how we see ourselves on the outside. Then we’ve learned what we’re like on the inside, thanks to the words we’ve put on the tree.

How interesting is that, right? I’m getting really hungry. Bye-bye! Come back soon!
