Hello, my fun-loving reading friends! Today, we’re going to read a super fun story called “Cedric’s Tail.” It’s all about a boy named Cedric who makes a special birthday wish. Let’s see what happens!
Cedric was a little boy who really wanted a tail. His dog had a tail, his cat had a tail, and even his goldfish had a tail! On his fourth birthday, Cedric made a big wish when he blew out his candles. He wished for a tail of his own!
The next morning, Cedric woke up and guess what? He had a long, curly tail! “Yippee! My birthday wish came true!” shouted Cedric. But having a tail wasn’t as easy as he thought. He tripped when he walked, made a mess with toothpaste, and got stuck in the shower. Oh no!
Cedric’s mom took him to the doctor, but the doctor said the tail couldn’t be removed. Cedric hugged his mom and promised he’d be okay. Cedric practiced using his new tail. He swung from trees, carried his school books, and even helped his mom around the house. Cedric’s tail was very helpful!
Soon, everyone knew about Cedric and his tail. He was on TV and became very famous. People wanted tails too, but their wishes didn’t come true. Some people even wanted to study Cedric’s tail, but he said no. Cedric learned that being famous wasn’t always fun. He couldn’t play his favorite games, and he had to wear special pants.
On Cedric’s fifth birthday, he had a party with a yummy chocolate cake. His mom asked him to make a new wish. Cedric thought for a moment and wished for something different. “I don’t want a tail anymore. I wish for an elephant’s trunk instead!”
Do you think Cedric will get an elephant’s trunk? I think his mom hopes he won’t! I hope you enjoyed our story today. See you next time for more fun adventures!
Make Your Own Tail: Gather some craft supplies like paper, string, and tape. Encourage the children to create their own pretend tails. Once they have made their tails, ask them to wear them and try doing simple tasks, like picking up toys or walking around the room. Discuss how having a tail changes the way they move and do things. Ask them, “What was easy to do with a tail? What was hard?”
Animal Tail Observation: Take the children on a short walk outside or show them pictures of different animals with tails. Ask them to observe how animals use their tails. Do they use them for balance, communication, or something else? Afterward, have a discussion about what they noticed. Ask, “Why do you think animals have tails? How do they help them?”
Imagine a New Wish: Have the children sit in a circle and think about what they would wish for if they could have any animal feature, like Cedric did. Encourage them to share their wishes with the group. Ask them to think about how their wish might change their daily life. Pose the question, “What would be fun about having this feature? What might be difficult?”
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Cedric wanted a tail. His pet dog had a tail, his pet cat had a tail, and even his pet goldfish had a tail. On his fourth birthday, Cedric blew out the candles and wished for a tail. The next day, Cedric woke up to find that he had a long, curly tail. “Yippee! My birthday wish came true!” shouted Cedric.
Cedric tried to walk but soon tripped. He tried to brush his teeth but squeezed the toothpaste everywhere. He even tried to shower and found himself trapped between the glass panels. Cedric scrunched up his face and cried for help. “Mom, help me!”
Cedric’s mother ran into the bathroom. She took Cedric to the doctor, who shook his head and said, “I’m sorry, but this tail cannot be removed.” Mom started to cry.
So, Cedric gave her a hug. “I’ll be okay, Mom, I promise,” said Cedric.
Cedric practiced using his new tail. He used it to swing from tree to tree, carry his school books, and help his mom around the house. He even used his tail to help his teacher, the lady at the grocery store, and a police officer. Cedric became famous and was on TV. “Having a tail is the best!” said Cedric.
Soon, Cedric became the most famous person in the world. Photographers camped outside his house day and night. Cedric and Mom spent the rest of the year with their curtains drawn.
Everyone wished for a tail on their birthday, but their wishes didn’t come true. A team of secret agents wanted to examine Cedric’s tail, but Mom said no. A group of scientists hoped to clone Cedric’s tail, but Cedric said no. A billion dollars was offered for Cedric’s tail, but they both said no.
Cedric realized his tail had its drawbacks. He couldn’t play his favorite sports because children tripped over him. He always had to wear custom-made pants, which were never in style, and he was always the center of attention, even when he just wanted to blend in.
On Cedric’s fifth birthday, he had a party. Mom placed a chocolate cake in front of him. “Cedric, dear, you know what to wish for,” said Mom. Cedric nodded and blew out his candles. “I don’t want a tail anymore. I wish for an elephant’s trunk instead.”
Do you think he’ll get an elephant’s trunk? I think his mom hopes he won’t. I hope you enjoyed our story today. See you next time!
